The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Awards & Scholarship Luncheon exists to honor local changemakers, invest in student achievement, and strengthen community service by recognizing outstanding leaders, awarding scholarships, and funding grassroots initiatives that improve the lives of Bakersfield and Kern County residents.

Unsung Hero Award
The Unsung Hero Award recognizes individuals whose quiet acts of service have made a lasting difference in the lives of others throughout Bakersfield and Kern County. These honorees may not seek recognition, but their leadership, compassion, and commitment to strengthening our community embody the values and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The award celebrates those whose selfless contributions inspire hope, create opportunity, and leave a meaningful impact on future generations.
Legacy Scholarship
The Legacy Scholarship recognizes students currently enrolled in a postsecondary institution who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and a strong commitment to serving their communities.
Community Impact Grant
Three (3) $500 Community Impact Grants are awarded each year to support projects that strengthen Kern County through service, leadership, and community engagement.
